The Fantastic Francis Foodies have been working diligently on getting through numerous "house keeping" activities in order to being cooking. The major concepts we have covered so far are routines & procedures, safety, cooking terms, and identifying kitchen equipment. We will begin our kitchen inventory lists and dish washing techniques in the upcoming week in order to prepare for our first day of cooking.
I apologize to parents & guardians for the mix up in cooking fees. In the course outline I indicated it was $20.00 for the semester in order to pay for groceries. The fee is actually $25.00 (last year the charge was $20.00 and the foods class ran out of money for groceries, so we are hoping to avoid this by increasing the cost). If this is an issue please let me know via email or you can make an appointment during my office hours.
Sept 25-Oct 5
We practiced the important life skill of dishwashing!! Students were given a messy kitchen they were responsible for cleaning, while taking the appropriate steps to ensure they were doing this properly. All students did wonderful and had a great attitude.
Our theme this month is breakfast!! We had our first 2 cooking labs - 4 ingredient energy bites, and breakfast potatoes! Next week is a short week as we only have class on Wednesday, but we will be cooking scrambled eggs!
This week we cooked pancakes 2 ways - traditional homemade style, and pancake muffins. The pancake muffins were extremely popular with the kids as almost all of them said they would make them at home as a convenient "grab and go" breakfast. We will continue our breakfast theme again next week, again looking at a popular breakfast item cooked 2 ways.
